Is this too much to ask from my alcoholic father?
I am just about to move back to my parents' house for a while. (My only option for now) I lived away in a different city for 2.5 years, which gave me needed breathing space from both of my alcoholic parents, mainly my father. My mum is a functioning alcoholic (in denial) who I can still communicate with. But he is not and I get huge anxiety just being in the same room with him. I would want to ask him to not talk to me after having even one drink (he starts between 12-18), as the conversations are very emotionally draining to me to listen him monologuelly blabber drunk about subjects I can't really talk about much. It puts a huge strain on our relationships as I cannot be relaxed with him even when he's sober, because I'm too exhausted and anxiety filled from the previous conversations we have had while he's drunk.
Do you think this is a rude thing to ask? After all I live with him and he is just trying to connect with me (?). I guess this is an battle between protecting myself vs. his feelings and possibly our daughter-father-relationship
