Is there life after eviction?

Sparing you the long story about how the landlord in Austin mistreated me for some unprovable but over the top obvious discrimination against me personally, long story short I lost a job then got an eviction notice. I was afraid to leave my apartment so I didn't know about it until just a few days before the court hearing - turns out they just left a note on my door because I was magically "avoiding being served". In truth I was afraid to leave, thinking they'd bar my entry electronically (was a nice place near Lamar/Mopac) and hold my $25k plus of technical equipment needed for my profession hostage.

Anyway, upon seeing the notice I packed up everything that I could fit in my car and left the day of the court hearing. I had to leave behind everything that wouldn't fit in my car: couch, bed, kitchen utensils, wicked 4k curved TV, the works.

I wrote a note and taped it to the inside of the apartment door (not the thing you advertise to your neighbors...) explaining this and obviously VOLUNTARILY vacating the premises.

I wasn't at the court hearing because I was packing my stuff and leaving. I had no job and no money for rent which is obviously all the court needs to hear so what would have been the point?

Anyway, AFAIK there's an eviction on my credit report now. Questions:

  • Is it possible to get it removed?
  • If not, what are my options for renting again, anywhere in the United States? Willing to leave Texas.
  • If i can't realistically rent again-beyond condemned buildings or those properties like that-i obviously can't buy a home either. So...where can I possibly live?
  • What kind of attorney should I be looking for? Any specific credentials that would be helpful here? Are the any that might offer flexible ways to pay for their services (once I'm back in my feet that is)?

Thanks for any advice you guys have.
