Planting evidence is sometimes the answer.

Party of 4 - Eldrich Knight, bard, paladin and earth gensai sorcerer.

-dug a 10ft hole as a trap, killed some kobolds and tossed the one that surrendered it's weapons in the hole, while promising the paladin we would come back for it.

-eventually come back, eldrich knight kills kobold.

-paladin mad, tries to beat the knight unconscious to arrest him.

-lands 2 hard hits, leaves knight on 1hp.

-bard shoves knight into hole.

-sorcerer puts paladin to sleep. Plants a dagger on the dead kobold and manages to convince the paladin when he wakes up that the kobold lies and didn't surrender all of his weapons and would have attacked the second he had the chance.
