Building a huge castle is... Useless?

Hey so i am building a huge castle out of metal.

But the monsters just attack a straight path to your core... And you can't move the core up so building upwards is useless..

What is the point of building a huge castle if they just ignore everything and go in 1 straight line...

(dont get me wrong i love this game.. Its amazing and i cant stop playing.)
