Is Vsync only for people with 60hz monitors?

I'm getting a monitor with 144hz and currently have a 60 hz. I'm new to pc gaming too. I have a GTX 1060 and Ryzen 1600 and when I'm playing doom im getting a lot of screen tearing because of my 60hz monitor. And when I turn vsync on it adds a lot of input lag so I always keep it off. So when I get my 144hz monitor is vsync even necessary?
