Echo Arena matchmaking

Does anyone know if there is any kind of matchmaker in place?

I'm consistently getting matched with high ranking players on the leaderboard and level 1s in the same match over and over again. It feels like it's just throwing every person that's searching for a game into a huge pool and randomly choosing teams.

So far this has really made it unenjoyable for me and the other players that I've talked to in game about.
