Best "cheap" places to visit in US for multi-day MTB trip?

Chicago rider here - aspiring to go on a trip next summer/spring. I priced out a trip to Moab, of course, and it came out to $1,063 before tax just for tickets, camp site (hotels are $150 a night...), and shuttles for May 16 - 20. Notably expensive was the shuttle service to/from the airport ($350 round trip) and the tickets themselves at $473.

Do any of you know of any good places cheaper than this to travel to? I will only be 18, so rental cars are a no go in most places. Also, hotels must be cheap and but not totally ghetto, what with carrying around a $3,000 bike and all.

Any suggestions or ideas?
