Is it bad that birds use plastic when making their nests?

In my community, behind the Starbucks, there is a lot of litter. Today I saw a hummingbird or sparrow or something make off with plastic wrapper. I instinctively tried to stop it, but it took it anyway.

I want to start picking up the plastic laying around the area, because the birds make nests from that area pretty often. But I only want to do that if it's a sound concern. Maybe it's fine. I don't care about beautifying the place.

Is this a sound concern?
