Best Way to Make Money on the Side While Employed?
Hello everyone,
I am currently employed, doing programming work at a typical 9-5 type job.
I currently make around $65k, but would like to have more money saved up. I could work an extra hour every day, but $31.50/day (our overtime rate is our base rate, sadly), after taxes, doesn't amount to much.
I used to think the best ROI would be to study for an hour each night and try to land a job in or around Los Angeles (the closest metro area), that paid quite a bit more, but despite my resume and LinkedIn tweaks (yes, I have taken advantage of the critique threads here), I never get any real responses, only crap from flakes like CyberCoders or random Indian IT shops that seem pretty scammy, so I've given up hope on that.
What are some ways to use my programming skills to make some side cash when I get off work? I've heard of UpWork and Freelancer, but have also heard I'd have to compete with third world pricing, which seems impossible. Has anyone here had any luck with that?
In general, what are some ways that you guys have successfully made some money on the side?
Thank you.
