Any way to remove/avoid railings?

A 4x4 floor has no railing on its edges, but any edit to it will have them and they get in the way when trying to aim downwards, making them problematic for sniper towers. Slapping on a lot of 4x4 floors on the other hand makes the top platform too wide to aim down close to the structure and if you try to leave a hole in it... railing.

Any way to not get railing on edited floors?
