Official camera connection kit or 3rd party all in one?

I'm looking to import videos directly from my action cam and noticed my options are by direct connection (USB) or an SD card reader. Through Apple these are separate products. Third parties combine these functionalities... is there anything wrong or may damage the iPad w these 3rd party all in ones?
