How to find a guru

I wish to be trained in carnatic classical or light music, primarily in composition (vocal or harmonium) and perhaps eventually an indian instrument as well if I can afford it.

How can I find a teacher? Where do I look? I live in St Louis missouri and cannot find anything local. Only far away skype lessons which I refuse to do (you just can't hear well enough over the computer)

Thank you
