Easy local place for beginner kayaking?

Help!

I just got a little kayak and I want to try it out with my girlfriend. Where's a decent local place where we won't have to worry about waves eating us? Or boats smashing into us? But that still lets us paddle around and maybe see some pretty views?

I want to try going tomorrow, if possible.
