Ceballos: "I'm coming to the best club of all time and I'll shed blood sweat and tears for this shirt"
“I told my agent that I only wanted to negotiate with Real Madrid and now I'm where I wanted to be”, he added.
Dani Ceballos has given his first interview as a Whites' player to Realmadrid TV. The centre-midfielder from Utrera was visibly thrilled to have joined the club and he described his initial feelings: “I'm coming to the best club of all time, I'm extremely proud and I'll shed blood sweat and tears for this shirt”.
How does it feel to have been presented as a new Real Madrid player?
I'm very proud to be pulling on this shirt. I'm coming to the best club of all time, which right now is the best in the world. I'm going to work every waking moment to show that I've come into a family and a team that wants to win everything.
Lots of clubs were interested in you. Why did you choose Real Madrid?
I told my agent that I only wanted to negotiate with Real Madrid and today I'm where I wanted to be.
What's the first thing that goes through your head when your signing is confirmed?
I thought about my family. I've got my feet on the ground, I'm always humble. They've always looked after me, they know the significance of this move for me, it's a special challenge and I'm going to take it on in the best possible manner and full of pride.
Where on the pitch do you feel most comfortable?
My position, as they say, is a number 8, setting the pace of the team, letting my teammates play, and trying to get a few goals which is never a bad thing.
What does it mean to you to be under the guidance of a legend like Zidane?
It was a factor in coming here. He's been my idol since I was young, I used to watch him play and to think a legend for Real Madrid and the French national team is going to be my coach is a real honour. I'm sure I'll learn a lot from him and it'll make me a better player.
At the recent U21 European Championships, you shared a dressing room with some of your new Real Madrid teammates. What have they told you about the biggest sporting institution in the world?
I shared a room with Marco (Asensio) and we spent a lot of time with Llorente and Borja (Mayoral) and they told me that if I got the chance to play at Real Madrid that I should take it because it'd be tough to be anywhere better and that I'd have the chance to be part of something historic.
You're going to share a dressing room with one of your idols in Modric.
Luka is unique, you watch him play and he makes the team tick. You can tell when he's involved in the game, he's the pacesetter. I'm going to work hard, learn and try and take all I can from him and I hope I can be as big a player as him on the world stage.
You must be looking forward to joining the group on the pre-season tour of the United States…
When it was made official, I already couldn't wait for Friday to come around so I could join up with the team. From then on, I'll have to work hard to carve out a place in the team and enjoy the experience, which I'm sure is going to be unforgettable.
A message for all the madridistas.
I want to tell all madridismo that I'm going to shed blood, sweat and tears for this shirt and do all I can to keep adding to the history of this club.
