Sound problems with Demon's Souls

Hey all

Just started the game and everything was fine for the most part Untill I went to 1-1. When I entered 1-1 the sound started sputtering. I couldn't hear my character make any noise but the background noise started sputtering.

The sound was so awful that it literally sounded like I was playing a FPS with gunfire in the background.

Anyone else have this issue and if so how did you fix it?
