The Dungeon (Feel free to critique)

My name is Brandon. I am the age of 15. I don’t know anything, other than my name and age. I don’t know what I like, where I’ve been or even if I have a family. All I know is where I am now. I have awaken in what seems to be a torture room in a dungeon. It is dark, and just by the smell I can tell there is blood. I can hear chains being dragged, followed by footsteps.

I need to come up with an escape plan, but judging by the footsteps and chains, I need to escape stealthily. I slowly walk to the cell bars, but I am not the first one that has been trapped in this cell. I step on the skeleton and its bones rattle making a large sound. The footsteps stop, and the chains stop dragging. I quietly escape back to the dark side of the cell.

In the darkness I feel a table, and on it, torture tools. I cut myself on a knife, and I suck the wound and keep spitting out what got in my mouth. The footsteps are getting closer and I am not in good shape. I take the handle of the knife. If I’m stuck in a dungeon then whoever is making the footsteps must be the warden. The “Warden” heard me spitting out my blood and tries to talk to me.

He shouts, “I hear you”, in a deep long exaggerated tone. I can see him holding a chain with spikes coming off of it. The chain looks long enough to reach me, but it’s too thick to fit through the bars of the cell. My knife on the other hand, can fit through the bars excellently. I grab the knife with my thumb and index finger at the end of the handle, swing my arm back, then lunge the knife forward. The knife goes clean through the bars and stabs him directly in the left eye. He screams and falls to the ground, and the keys he had on his belt come flying under the bars to the other side of the cell. The “Warden” calms himself and gets back up, with the knife still in his eye. He screams at me as I run to grab the keys. I get the keys, and I sprint to the cell door. I unlock the door and whack the “Warden” with the door. I dash down the hall, coming to an intersection with another hall and run left.

I can hear the “Warden” following close on my tail. And it feels as if the ground is starting to shake. I’m not sure if it’s because of how big the “Warden” is or if the ground is actually shaking. The roof caves in on the “Warden”, and I have so much adrenaline rushing that I keep running. At this point I am only running from my fears. I start to feel a sense of Déjà vu. There is light at the top of the stairs at the end of the hallway. I run up the stairs, but the don’t seem to end. The stairs are endless. I stop. The stairs come closer to me now. I feel like it has feelings, or a soul. The stairs keep coming to me until I am able to reach the door at the top. I step through the door and into the sunlight. The feeling of Déjà vu is still with me. The sun disappears out of the sky, and the world collapses around me until the platform I stand on is the only thing here. The emptiness goes on forever. The feeling of loneliness is unbearable, knowing that there isn’t a single other thing in the entire universe. Just you, your clothes, and the platform you stand on. There is only one way to go from here. I jump and land with a sudden thud. I only recognize where I am for a split second, with a great feeling of grief, before the amnesia kicks in from the fall.
