Wanting to know how well a Polearm Fighter Eldritch Knight would perform.

Now I like using Polearms, but here's something I learned...

Some of the Sword Coast cantrips have a range of 5 feet. But the Glaive has a reach of 10. How am I supposed to take advantage of it? Or am I better off with another class or weapon?
