Random stone walls

So, Recently my friends and I have started a new world, large of course. As of late, 10 - 30 block high one block thick walls made of stone have been randomly appearing in the world. They have been appearing everywhere, even in unexplored parts of the map. All three of us have encountered them, but no one makes claim to making even one. Can anyone explain?
