What "you can't have morals without God" actually means is...
..."I have literally never heard of this 'ethics' thing. Is it a herb, or something?"
I am so sick of theists saying stuff like "without God, murder is ok" or "without God everything is permitted" and so on.
There is an entire branch of philosophy dedicated to this. And guess what? It pretty much never brings religion into it.
Here. Just peruse the Wiki about it if you want. Click on some of the links, perhaps.
It's kind of a big deal. A lot of the names you'll find are pretty famous guys. There are courses on this at every college in America.
Yes, there are "moral truths" you can discover purely by secular means. I am increasingly frustrated and flabbergasted when people act like this is an impossibility, and that without the Bible or their particular holy book, we would be cannibal rapists with no clue.
People were acting morally before your religion existed, that is an objective fact. And we can justify it all without invoking your religion.
What the theists say may be perfectly true, but stop trying gain followers from this angle. You sound like a complete idiot if you pretend that an entire branch of philosophy hundreds of years old never existed in the first place.
Believe it or not, some people actually THINK about what is right and wrong instead of just following orders. /rant
