New to this game, getting rekt however still really enjoying it. Tips?

I'm a noob, and I love this game so far. I've lost a lot of gear however so far it's been a blast playing, and would appreciate any tips you have. My last raid last night was INTENSE. I snuck up on a player at the gas station and got loaded up with a fully decked ak and a bunch of mags. As excited as I was i noticed i was bleeding left with no bandages. I paced around the gas station area looking for bandages on scav bodies and no luck. Had to fight my way to the exit took down two scavs and got taken out by another my heart sank :( as someone who spent countless time on dayz im used to not being attached to loot but that was sad :(
