Any advice for research in Fourier analysis or measure theory?

I am working on Fourier analysis/ measure theory independently with my professor this summer and would like to start thinking about how to turn my learning into research and mathematical writing. My goal before the summer ends is to submit a paper to some paper competitions. I am open to doing work in applied mathematics or pure, I am simply short on researchable ideas i suppose. Any advice would be appreciated!
