What do you put on restaurant salads?

I could use some more ideas. Personally, I'm not just concerned with calories. For medical reasons, I'm also watching sodium intake and trying to avoid high fructose corn syrup. But whatever tips you have, you might as well post them. Even if it doesn't help me, it might help someone else who doesn't have those restrictions.

In the past, I've tried a few different things when I couldn't figure out which dressing was "safe." Sometimes I'd ask for the cruets of oil and vinegar, measure some out as best I could, and then sprinkle some pepper on the salad. I've also tried lemon juice with some pepper. These get boring, quick. I just can't face sticking to either one for the rest of my life.

I've found several places to buy dressing packets I could carry with me, but an awful lot of them are very high in sodium.

The Nutrition Facts for Walden Farms packets look ok, but I've never been a big fan of their products. Do any of the dressings actually taste good?

I found a fat free Marzetti one that wasn't terrible on sodium, and then I noticed the first ingredient listed is HFCS. :(

Pritikin has a line of dressings that I've only seen online. They have pouches for $1.29 each plus shipping. Super natural and healthy, it looks like--but how do they taste? Has anybody tried them?

Any other ideas are welcome!
