Can anyone catch a new fan up to speed?

I did a search and checked the sidebar and didn't see a token "new fans here" so I hope you don't mind me asking here.

I've always liked watching soccer but never followed a team outside of Kaiserslautern from the German 2. Bundesliga when I spent some time there.

I figure I'm back in the philly area now and there's actually a team here so time to hop on board and actually follow the sport again! I'm hoping some of you here wouldn't mind trying to get me caught up to speed on the "need to knows" of the Union and even of the MLS as a whole. I've never followed a team in the league so I'm a true virgin fan here.

Thanks in advance!!
