As a casual/competitive ladder player, I really liked when Blizzard did the "Top 64 legend players this month get invited to a special tournament" a little while ago. Can we do more of that?
Did anyone else enjoy that event? I understand it probably only affects a small percentage of people - given that 90% of the people who play this game probably have no chance at placing that high. But for me and my friends it was an awesome experience. I've never played so much Wild in my life. We were constantly playing, screaming, yelling, winning, losing - it was so much fun. It added a unique competitive aura to the atmosphere of laddering. One of my friends got super close and finished just outside the Top 100.
Getting Legend every season and then having nothing really to work towards is a boring grind. Going for Blizzcon points is more-so a full-time job - you have to constantly be on top of ladder every season for multiple seasons as well as play in tons of events and place well.
The thought of just having to high roll a bunch of times into a Top 64 placement makes the game a lot of fun for many casual/competitive players such as myself. There are many talented people who can get Legendary quite easily, but do not have the time-commitment to play Hearthstone 24/7 for months on end. I remember when Hearthstone first came out, if you made Top 16 in ranked, you were automatically qualified for the Blizzcon tournament playoffs. Those were some really exciting times, as it allowed any joe-blow who had a great season, or innovated an awesome deck that nobody really knew about to get a spot in a prestigious Hearthstone event.
I would love to see something like this even come to standard. Every month the Top 64 players are invited to a special Hearthstone tournament with say, $20,000 up for grabs, streamed on Twitch. It showcases that months premium talent while rewarding the players who did the best.
Did anyone else like that Blizzard did this? And would you like to see it continue?
