I'm looking for a place to buy a brass compass as a gift for a relative serving in the military.
New or used (in good condition) is fine. Just having trouble finding any place to purchase that's not online.
I've tried Lee Valley and The Binnacle.

Unfortunately we only have a few Silva compasses in stock, and none are brass. We're a Rothco dealer, our compasses come from them. If something here works, we can have it in a few weeks.

You might want to search for estate sales. A few years back I tried the same search, and could not find anything new.
Try https://www.mapsandmore.ca/ I know they had nice orienteering compasses a number of years ago. Local shop as well
I love that store (I'm a huge map geek).
I'm not into maps but I love browsing that shop. Its always interesting.

Lee Valley was a no go? Just checked again, it's a decent one but not actually brass. Amazon has a few nice looking ones.
They have a compass but it's a cheaper one, certainly not brass and not really nice enough for what I'm looking for.
I found this at a Halifax antique store called Finer Things Antiques and Curios. They're located at 6438 Quinpool Road. It's a nice gift, but I don't know if you're looking for one they might use while working or something nice for their shelf.
Or this at a company on Purcells Cove Road. It's not brass, but it's metal and looks nice and is meant for working use.
