What to do with brand new, stock tires? (November 2018)
I just placed an order a couple weeks ago for a 2018 WRX. The expected delivery date is late November, and my understanding is that the car comes with summer performance tires. I live in the northeast, so no bueno.
I have a couple questions on the direction I should head here and I'm looking for advice. Even in pretty harsh winters, I've had zero problems with good all-seasons so my tentative plan is to have these General AltiMAXs with me when I pick up the car. They get pretty good reviews in terms of dry, wet, and snowy conditions, as well as for their performance characteristics. I've never had a performance-oriented car, so can anyone tell me what advantages the stock performance tires would have over these? I'm not planing on racing this car or anything...just the occasional spirited drive. It will be my daily driver.
Another question is what to do with the stock tires after I get them off the car? I'd be willing to swap back and forth with all-seasons until the summers were worn out, but not getting winters and having to swap them twice a year all the time. I suppose I could buy winter wheels, but I haven't seen any inexpensive options that didn't look like garbage. There's also an issue with storing the extra set. I live in an apartment, so that could also be a problem.
Would it be possible to let the dealership keep these tires in exchange for reducing the price on the car? Or are they worth keeping?
Any advice?
