Film Distribution on Facebook - Protocol
Hi, I am a filmmaker - writer/director - with completed 4 short films. We released the first film online on my professional Facebook page and marketed it by team members sharing it mostly via private messages with their friends and asking for a share if the friends enjoyed it. We had a considerable run considering how small our networks were: 6,000 views and a little over 100 shares in the first week. After that, we basically stopped marketing and the sharing and views petered out pretty quickly. We had been hoping it would catch on and go viral, but it didn't, though I believe content-wise it had the potential to. Recently I've been looking into distribution and marketing and considering it might be a good plan to re-release the film on a Facebook media page with a large following. It seems some media pages are looking for content and we would love the exposure. However I'm just wondering what the protocol is - can you offer it / release it on several of these pages, or would they require exclusivity, and if so, for how long a period of time? Facebook videos disappear after a while just because of the nature of the scrolling medium, so it wouldn't make sense to sell rights in perpetuity or anything like that. This seems like a new sphere, so just wondering if anyone knows the protocol.
By the way, here is the video itself: https://www.facebook.com/Stephie.Spicer/videos/vb.100008206771504/1760594637557412/?type=3&theater
