What can I expect socially going to university for my electrical engineering degree at 25, after completing my electrical construction maintenance ticket?
I have always thought I wanted to be an engineer since high school. However, my family history is all in the trades and I was persuaded into becoming an electrician. I enjoy what I do, but the job required me to be on the road all the time and because of this anyone my social life has really diminished. The hard work has paid off, as now I'm in the office of the company I work for, and I have 3 months until I'm licensed. And I'm financially set as I've saved almost 90% of it. However, Once I get licensed, I'm strongly considering going back to school to become an engineer.
The only thing that I'm unsure about is that I'll be 25 when I start. What will this be like for me socially? I know that it shouldn't bother me, but having committed so much time to my job while everyone else is having fun has bothered me for some time. Everyone has their group of friends, and I find it's really hard to get in. I feel like I worked away my youth, and now that I'm settled down in the office, I'm working hard but slowly (and I mean slowly) building up my social and dating life again. Going back to school, my first priority would be to do well, but I would also like to have that work/social balance that I disregarded working when I was younger.
Is it possible to achieve everything that I'm looking for going to school at 25?
