Are you not able to exchange phone numbers on care.com?

I posted a job on care.com. So far, the two applicants I asked to do phone interviews with told me to email them to their personal email to get their phone number. Is this an odd tactic they're using, or are people not allowed to send their phone number through care.com's message service function?
