Day 1 (again). Down 35 lbs since Jan 1, 2016, but stalled for a little over a year.

This morning I went to the gym and ran a mile and a half. I've felt like a slacker lately- and over the past year I've had a lot of emotional ups and downs. The good news is that I got down to 185lbs once, and I've stayed under 200lbs (starting weight was 230), but I haven't met my goal of 160lbs yet. (5'7" male)

I went off-track sometime at the beginning of the summer of 2016. For me, it was reading too much about weight loss, and getting all sorts of confused about the subject. I was doing perfectly fine for the first several months of the year, burning at about a pound a week. Then I honestly started looking for more 'science' and shortcuts, and that's when the losing stopped. I started studying everything from Keto to Alkaline to who knows what. All are just fine theories and plenty of science, but I couldn't stay disciplined enough to execute properly.

I feel like it was good for me emotionally to in get a short break for about a month, but a year? That's way too much.

So I'm going back to what worked for me:

  • Track calories and keep it at 1500 cal per day
  • Eat responsibly with next to no sugar and very low (and only complex) carbs
  • I usually ate vegetarian until dinner, when i would allow myself some kind of meat + veggie for dinner, but no junk foods and very few snacks in between.
  • Work out a minimum of 3x per week. Some weights, but I enjoy the treadmill more. (I ran my first 5K in March 2016!)

That's pretty much it. The way I got onto that was by learning to work out first, along with learning to eat right. I started that in Sept 2015, and it wasn't until Jan 2016 when I decided I was going to use that new habit to lose actual weight. It was like I was 'getting up to speed.'

Now I'm telling myself, "Alrighty. Now you're back up to speed. Time to lose it again. You're at 195lbs and all you have to do is exactly the same thing you did before and you'll hit your goals. Ready? Aim? FIRE!"

Get ready guys, you'll be hearing a new success story from me in a few months!
