Ink Tags, but no EAS gates

I'm about to go get me a new pair of cowboy boots. When I scoped out the store a week ago, I noticed all their apparel has ink tags, especially their boots. I kept looking for EAS gates, but I don't think this store has them. I did notice one box was spiderwrapped, though. My question: are the tags on clothing the deterrent? I can get an ink tag off at home, but I don't have the magnets to do it in-store. Will walking out the door while wearing the boots set off some hidden eas system?
