Ham mama in law
This is more of my husband's story but he asked me to share it on here. I won't lie, my formatting will be off but please bear with me. Nursing a toddler while 6 months pregnant and typing is not easy.
Little background on the main people.
MIL- 47, diabetic, can't really walk much, poor vision due to diabetes, maybe 5'3 and 280+ but with absolutely bare minimum amount of muscle needed. 6th grade education and very conservative southerner. Stuck up, has handicap sticker. doesn't know I'm pregnant, just thinks I'm getting fat.
DH- oldest of 5, second generation nuke in the navy, an ass but enough training to know when to shut it. 6' even and 160lbs of muscle.
Last week, the A.C. in our car broke. Between living in the south and me being pregnant, we obviously had to get it fixed fast. Luckily, the car was still under warranty so DH talked to some people to get off work slightly early to get it to the shop and then have his parents pick him up to borrow his dad's car.
After his parents pick him up, MIL tells him that they have to stop by a certain superstore before heading home. We're getting to use a car for free so whatever floats her boat. The entire ride there, she was snacking on some fries and complaining about random things.
They walk in and MIL instantly snags up a scooter. She then proceeded to roll over to the fast food burger place to get a snack because "that walk really drained me". Offers DH some and he declines. She's sitting there eating her McGrossness and decides to go wait in line for the pharmacy. DH just wanted to wait in the van but nope. This is when DH learns, by her complaining through sips of McBeetus, that MIL now needs tons of insulin.
They get her meds and DH finally thinks they're good to leave. They end up dragging him around while they grab some grocery items. Specifically, they load the scooter basket with soda, chips and ice cream treats. On the ride back to their house, MIL sneaks atleast two of the ice cream bars that DH noticed. They also stop by 4 different fast food places to grab the 3 younger kids who live with them some dinner as well as food for themselves.
When they get back, MIL continues to talk and talk to DH about random political things. He's getting pretty annoyed at this point but is staying quiet. She starts talking about how horrible she thinks her doctor is and how they insulted and fat shamed her because of her "perfectly normal and okay" size. DH asks what she means. The jist of what I got from his angry ranting about her was that her military doctor was pushing hard for her to get weight loss surgery. How dare the doctor when it's clearly genetic, look at everyone else in the family except DH. They're all bigger. She was doing this while drinking a giant cup of sugary who knows what and eating 2 different meals.
DH eventually got the car keys from his dad, after he notices how silently angry DH is getting, and drove the 2 miles to our house. The moment he gets in the door, before ranting about what you just read, all he could say was "holy f-ing shit, no wonder you never have anything to do with them. You were right, they can find out about the baby when she's born."
TL;DR: diabetic, barely mobile, half blind MIL gets insulin at pharmacy then eats enough sugar and food to last most normal people a few days. Complains about Dr pushing for FREE weight loss surgery while eating 2 more meals and saying she's fine and they were fat shaming her.
