What's with the chicken feet?

I was a little behind on episodes so caught up yesterday but I'm still confused why was this such a big deal. I get the whole voodoo theory and it could be that Pedro's mom did want to make fun of Chantel's by cooking something " different". But, as someone who eats everything myself, chicken feet is a staple in many places and even considered a delicacy. Has anyone ever been to dim sum ?

Anyways, I think that unfortunately Chantel's mom's reaction does prove that she is indeed a little more ignorant and unknowledgeable than what she believes. Sad, specially since the whole point of that conversation was for her to show that she wasn't " stupid". :D
