Need advice on saving this tree (split trunk)
Back in late May (post Mother's Day), northern Colorado had a freak and very heavy/wet snow storm. Despite our efforts to knock down as much snow from our trees as possible, we had one severe casualty. But as I type this, I realize that this particular tree was not even leafy at the time of this snowstorm. This damage could be the result of physics?
I don't know what kind of tree it is, but it flowered very prettily in June. We purchased this house a year ago and are still in the process of identifying all of the plantlife on the property.
Regardless, we have a pretty severe split down the center of this tree.
Of note:
- The rope is temporary.
- Ratcheting straps on order to really bring the split sides back together along the trunk and the large branch.
- Tree Wound on order to seal off cracks and prevent further damage.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Both sides of the trunk/branches are still healthy. The leaves are fine and not wilting. Thank you for reading.
