Mixed race with 'white' hair - anyone else?

Hey everyone, this is my first post so sorry if I do anything wrong. I'm just here to share my experience and hopefully get some support.

I have such a beautiful heritage and I am so proud of it. My father is English and my mother is second-generation Caribbean (T&T). Excusing my father, I am the lightest member of my family and I am also the only one without natural hair.

I have naturally straight/wavy hair and I have felt distanced from my Caribbean heritage because of this. My mum and sister go to 'black women's salons' all the time but I feel out of place there. I've had members of my family say I couldn't care for my cousins alone because I wouldn't know how to deal with their hair. I've had my hair weaved before to feel more like part of my black culture. At the moment I an considering getting my hair permed or putting in faux locs to make myself feel more black. Is it appropriation if I gave myself a 'more black' hairstyle when I don't need one for protective styling? Can I appropriate culture when its my own culture?

Has anyone else ever felt similar to this? It feel stupid to ask as hair such a small problem but it has left me ostracized from my own community.
