When did "tryharding" become a bad thing?

Every single day I see players throwing shit at the ones that try their best every game. Why?

It's ranked, you bet your ass I will try my best and not surrender even when we're far behind. I've seen so many situation turns in late game. It's all about that one good teamfight and boom you won.

Please, dear team mates, stop telling me it's a waste of time. Or stop trying hard cuz it's lost. If i would not want to waste time, I wouldnt play the game. You dont wanna play anymore, no stress. Just go afk and the system will take care of you :).

If it's a normal game, again: maybe I want to try something new, maybe I want to get my cs to 10/minute with a certain champ. You are not having fun because you lost the lane hard? I understand that but please dont make the experience bad for others too with an attitude. You're in the enemy team and losing, dont blame me for picking a meta champ that i want to practice with.

I love trying hard because I am competitive, why am I being flamed/ put in a bad spotlight for that?
