Should I read Real and Vagabond knowing that they might stay incomplete?

So, I've read Slam Dunk from the same author and I loved it and I've seen people constantly praising these two manga. When I looked them up, I noticed that both of them have been on hiatus for 2 years. I've looked around and it doesn't look like they will be continuing anytime soon. More importantly, I've seen somewhere (can't remember where) that the author might have dropped them for good. My problem is I don't want to get into something that would leave me disappointed because of no ending. So should I take the risk of reading them or should I just avoid them?
