Made some great progress in cooking more, eating out less, but still struggle with breakfast. Ideas?
So I'll make the background info quick. I've grown up in a one parent household most of my life, and grew up eating fast food quite a bit. Once I started living alone I started cooking more but still gave in to the temptation and ease of fast food. Especially because I've always had a technician type job where I wake up early am out and about all day and get home late.
Earlier this year I quit drinking alcohol for 3 months and saw what wonders it did not only to my health but for my wallet. Once I finished that goal I figured there's no excuse I really have to keep eating take out and to not make an effort to cook more.
So for the last 3 months or so I've done great at buying groceries on a weekly basis, planning out my meals, and cooking more. Even despite my crazy work schedule I just pop on a podcast and start cooking when I get home. I think I have dinner pretty much figured out, I don't really need advice there, but where I'm really struggling is breakfast.
I can cook a great omelet, but a lot of the time I either don't have the time or I'm just not craving such an egg-heavy meal. Other than Omelets, I occasionally have egg sandwiches or oatmeal but same thing, I just get sick of it after a short while. Bacon I love, but it's too pricey if I had it all the time, and not to mention it takes a minute to cook. So a lot of the time I just settle for a couple Cliff Bars and a glass of milk.
I guess what I'm getting at is I want a better variety of breakfast meals. Still in the bachelor-esque type of meals, I don't want to do a lot of prep work, or spend more than like 15 minutes cooking. I want something where I can wake up take care of my dog, take a shower, cook eat and clean the dishes all within about an hour of waking up before heading to work.
My taste preferences tend to be Egg and meat heavy, I like breakfast sandwiches as well. Fruit is good too but not a huge berry fan. More a fan of Apples, oranges and pears. And as far as eating healthy, it's not really a concern of mine. My priorities would be
cooking time > price > 'fuel' > health.
Any advice is much appreciated, just trying to have more energy throughout the day while not spending a lot of money.
