Pixel Phone compatibility

Anyone using the Pixel phone (Not the XL) showing the game as not compatible in the Play Store? I know I can sideload it and it works but updating the game is a little more annoying.

I am just trying to figure out if this is their half-assed attempt at blocking root users from installing the game the way Nintendo/Niantic does (my phone is rooted) or if they just need to update their compatibility. I'll stop checking if it's their attempt at controlling how I use my phone.

Thanks.
