Short Motorcycle shop rant

This is the second shop I've gone to where I get an original time estimate, and then never hear back from the place. This time I was told that they would be looking at the bike on Friday (of last week). Didn't hear from them all weekend. Called them up this morning and they inform me that it's 4th in line and would probably be looked at on Wednesday or Thursday. It would have been nice to hear that on the day I expected to be getting it back!

Is this common for motorcycle shops? I know that work piles up at these places, but this is the second shop in a row where I've been kept completely in the dark until I go out of my way to get a hold of them, only to learn that it's going to take even more time. Super aggravating.
