High School Physics Teacher Looking for Project Ideas!
Hello!
I teach high school physics to juniors and was hoping to incorporate more summative projects for students that involve some sort of hands on designing and building. Ideally, they should take up at least 2 days and should be focused on a certain physics concept. Bonus points if they have some sort of real life application to them.
A classic example would be like designing and building a contraption for an egg to survive a fall. We redesigned the project to designing and building a small egg car so the egg survived a crash from a ramp. Then we could incorporate real life elements such as the purpose of airbags, seatbelts, crumple zones, etc. as well as the physics concepts of momentum and impulse.
Some more big projects that I already do are building mobiles and analyzing torque equilibrium, building bungee cords and analyzing spring constants and using conservation of energy to determine stretch length, and building flashlights as an intro to circuits.
So I would love any ideas on projects that you might have done in high school that you really liked, that you've seen done, or that you came up on the spot! Thanks in advance!
