Ok, real talk. Money time.
We're interested in a Tesla Model 3. It's nearly time for a new car anyway for us (probably 2018) and we live in Minnesota.
We're thinking $36,000 for a Base Model 3 with a color.
Commutes are short, and with the supercharging network, we should be able to go just about anywhere. We'll just have to stop more.
For daily commuting, we should only have to charge once a week (even though it's at home).
So effectively, we've decided that the long-range option is not worth it for us. We have a second ICE car, and as I said, there are enough superchargers that we can go practically anywhere.
I'm also a fan of the standard Aero wheels. I think they look futuristic and almost Tron-like.
Question 1:
My first question is: For $5k, is the Premium Upgrades Package worth it?
We were looking towards memory seats but that is bundled with a whole lot more, a glass roof, vegan leather, wood decor, center console, heated seats, etc.
Question 2:
What tax incentives are available to us in the state of Minnesota? When we purchase in 2018, are we still eligible for the federal credit? And I don't want to get political, but under the current administration, is the federal tax credit endangered?
Question 3:
When the time comes in 2018, will we be able to lease it? Due to the constantly changing technology of EVs and Teslas, our car may go obsolete very fast. We are early adopters of new technologies and like to stay on the bleeding edge. (Not wealthy enough early adopters for a Model S, however). Will the federal tax incentive still apply to leases?
Thanks!
