Help - Would you move agency for your daughter? [Serious][LEO][FL][OH]
Hey guys, I'm LEO here in North FL. I have been USMC / DoD Police over the last almost decade, finally got on at my local Sheriff over the last 1.5yrs. I've been killing it here. I feel like it's been a really great agency so far and I absolutely love this job. SWAT tryouts coming in April too. I wanted to work here since I was a kid watching my uncle fly the helicopters.
The flipside:
I have a 7 year old daughter that lives around Cincinnati.
I'm 29. I am single, and she's my only kid.
I get her for the summers (just had her June and July) and other big holidays usually. So about 90 days a year or so. It's about a 12 hour drive that separates us.
The problem is I have huge anxiety and depression about not seeing my kid enough. I'm tearing up as I write this... I feel like I'm not there. And I feel that in 20 years I'm going to look back and regret that very much... I traded being more active in my daughter's life for my own satisfaction at a job I can theoretically do anywhere.
The end of each visit is as hard as the last. It absolutely kills me to break her heart because I can't be there enough.
So, my dilemma is; I am having huge success at my current agency, however, my daughter is getting the short end of that.
What would you guys do?
I'm leaning towards moving to OH..
I want to work for another big agency with a lot of violent crime, which Cinci seems to be that. FL and OH are similar politically from what I can tell. Anyone here work for Cinci PD that has any insight? Any idea how the certification process would work?
I ask you guys because I feel my personal friends/family would be bias one way or the other.
Thanks in advanced. -Kyle
