Can people please stop calling the Inverted Spire boss a bullet sponge!
I've seen a lot of criticism aimed at Protheon for being 'another typical destiny bullet sponge', have these people completely forgotten what vanilla D1 strike bosses were like?
Take Valus ta'aurc for example, he was the definition of a bullet sponge, literally all you had to do was shoot him whilst dodging his rockets whilst he slowly walked back and forth.
Whereas the Prothoen fight actually had mechanics to it, although some were better than others it still made the fight interesting and in some cases difficult (especially his final phase).
Also the fact you can take him down in about 5 minutes with nothing but primary weapons is something that would be impossible in D1.
Although I agree I hope some of the other strike bosses in D2 have different more raid like mechanics, to completely write off a very good strike imo because of this criticism seems very short sighted and not appreciating how far Destiny has come since vanilla.
EDIT: Having read the comments it's pretty evenly split with people agreeing or disagreeing.
I just wanted to clarify what I mean by using the term Bullet sponge as a lot of people have different interpretations ;
For me it's a boss that has a significantly higher health pool requiring a high amount of DPS to take down and which generally makes no attempt to block or evade the player's attacks and in turn doesn't respond any differently to incoming damage. so no special strategies are required, all you need to do is shoot it until it dies.
Protheon isn't a bullet sponge because as his health gets lower he changes his attacks and alters the battle arena, so he's reacting to you in the fight.
Hope that clears things up, feel free to agree or disagree so far it's been a really good discussion!
