Do I really need to beg for friends?

I'm a 20yo woman who always had issues socializing, but actually has done great improvements through the years!

Over the last 5y, due to stuff going on in my life and mental health, I have lost a lot of friendships and even though I've been meeting new people, we haven't always clicked, or they just simply had a very stablished group of friends and it was hard to mesh.

All those things had been lately weighting on me a bit too much. I'm 20yo and even though I have some friends, I cannot count on them much, and I don't want to spend my life laying on my bed watching life go by. Even if I'm not the most social, I'd like more friends.

So I made a change! I love change. After looking at all the possibilities around my city of meeting new friends (which aren't as diverse as in other countries). I joined a website in the one people who want to make new friends or make a group to hang out and meet new people, make posts and such. So for the last week, I've been replying to a nice amount of threads, sending DMs, talking to people, but I don't seem to have any luck.

On conversations 1on1, it's good, really. Been talking to a few guys (not looking for a bf, but only men seem to reply or text me), they are cool. But when it comes to the groups I requested to be added to, I've had a pretty bad luck. I've only gotten to replies from two people! And only one of those was to tell me they'll add me once they set up the group.

I don't have funny looks, I have a very simple description... What's wrong? I just wanted to make friends!

Note1: the groups I'm requesting to be added to are groups that just want new members from certain ages to hang out around the city and meet new people, no other requirements.

Note2: Is it a coincidence that everyone who ignored me were women? (Talking about group request here)
