Small, inexpensive desktop speaker amp?

I have a pair of passive speakers that I'd love to use with my setup but since they aren't powered, I need an amplifier. I don't think I need a DAC since I can use my PC's built in sound card but I need something to power the speakers.

Ideally, I'd love something with a volume knob and headphone output with a separate volume control.

Does something like this exist? I know I could get a home theatre receiver but I feel like that's overkill for these smaller speakers. Any ideas?
