[Recommendations?] Hiking in the Lower Mainland / British Columbia
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for hikes in and around the Lower Mainland (British Columbia) - specifically for family day-hikes. We carry one baby in an SSC and have a frame backpack for a toddler once they tire out. We're looking of hikes that fit some or most of these criteria:
- 5-10 km total length
- Moderate difficulty (ideally not flat, but not 1500+ m elevation gain)
- Less busy (or at least not a tourist trap)
- Within 1 - 1.5 hours of Surrey
I've been poking around on AllTrails (and Wikiloc a bit) and it seems like most of the hikes we were able to find there are 'heavily trafficked' - while we'd like to be on a quieter trail, it sounds like lots of people is just par for the course for the Lower Mainland. It seems like the north shore hikes are the worst for this.
For reference, we hiked (i.e. gently strolled) the Houston Trail this weekend and want to do something a fair bit more challenging. We're going to do Mount Thom and the Teapot Hill soon. Possibly Lindeman and and Greendrop Lakes trails in a month or so. I'd love to work up to Sumas Mountain or Elk Mountain eventually.
Anyways - does anyone have any tips for finding hikes? Alternatively, are there any good resources for finding hikes specific to the LM?
Thanks!
