Need Help Forming a Plan to ask for more Compensation at work.

Employment

Hello, and thank you for the help in advance.

In about a week I am going to be asking for more compensation at my job. I have been here about 2 years, and have had yearly raises of ~2 percent each year. I started off making ~40K.

When I first started there were 3 people in my department. About 6 months ago there were some layoffs in my department, and my supervisor was laid off. I then took over his duties / responsibilities. I asked about compensation / title changes then and was told they could do nothing at the time but in the future I would see some increased in compensation and maybe a title change. The yearly review came along and I received the 2% raise.

Fast forward to last week, the other person in my department had put in there 2 week notice. A replacement had been hired, and was scheduled to train the following week. Thursday the week before I get notified that they would not be hiring a replacement, and that I would fulfill most of the responsibilities, and some systems would be changing to help distribute some of the work to other people.
My manager was not too happy about this, but it came from higher up so there was not much that he could do. Again I was told when reviews come around I will see increased compensation, and hopefully a promotion. But I do not have much faith in this and it is about 6 months away until any of this even starts happening. Also there is no guarantee.

My manager said his biggest concern was that he did not want to lose me, and if I felt I was not being supported enough / overwhelmed to let him know. Also that I had been doing a great job since taking over as basically supervisor of my department.

I really have no question that I will be able to handle everything. But it will be a lot more work. I have basically gone from doing only my job to doing the job that pretty much 3 people were doing before. And I feel that I deserve some type of compensation increase.

So next Monday I plan on asking my manager for a raise / promotion whatever that looks like, but I am not sure how. Especially since I got shutdown last time, and he already said I would be getting increased compensation when the review period comes. I plan on going Monday so I can wait a week and make sure everything is running smoothly, and also formulate a plan. This is what I need help with. Any help will be greatly appreciated, and thank you all for reading this!

Edit: My biggest concern is that he will say there is nothing he can do until the reviews happen. But I am sure he can go to HR and they can possibly give me a promotion or some type of raise outside of the review period. But I am not sure how this all works.
