Why does conservatism seem to have such a small global following?

Skimming through some of the older discussions, I noticed a few where people asked about conservative countries besides the US. Apparently the only conservative countries are Britain, Poland, and Japan. Some people brought up Israel and Singapore, but others thought these were bad examples.

Conservatism might be doing fine in America, but the impression I get from this is that conservatives are losing very badly everywhere else. This is weird, since other kinds of Americanism, like pop culture and democracy, spread infectiously worldwide after the US became a superpower. When the USSR was a superpower, communism had a much bigger following than conservatism does today. What gives?

For this, I'm assuming the typical "small government, strong military, Christian family values" type of conservative.
