Columbia Chicken Recommendations

discussion

My family will be in and around the Columbia area next weekend and I’m putting together a little fried chicken tour. I wanted to see if there were any must-hit spots along the way. My wife just got me a copy of the new Carolina fried chicken map, which has a lot of places listed in that area. It would take more than a few days to hit them all!

Bernie's on Bluff Road is an absolute must for fried chicken!

Got a couple recommendations for Bernie's, it's definitely going on the itinerary!

Bernie's chicken is good, Rush's is local fast food restaurant with really good fried chicken, and Drake's Duck In on Main St. has a good chicken and waffle.. hope this helps and enjoy Columbia!

I second Drakes Duck In. Best chicken sandwich ever!!!

Oh man, I forgot about Rush's. Chili cheese burgers all day. And a strawberry shake.

I'm visiting Columbia again for the first time in about five years and I'm trying to remember all the delicious food spots from my childhood.

Zesto's or Rosewood Dairy Bar. Best chicken in the state.

I'll second this.

Oh man I forgot about this place. I miss living beside it.

Bernie's is considered the king of chicken here in Columbia, as others have pointed out.

I'd also recommend checking out Bojangles if you don't have one near you. Same with Rush's. Both are fastfood that serve fried chicken.

I've never been, but I've heard good things about Kiki's Chicken and Waffles.

Bernies, Zesto in West Columbia, Rushs, Drakes on Main Street, those are all your best bet.

Alright, everyone knows the normal bernies rushes zesto deal..... it's all good

But I would suggest Palmetto pig which is downtown in the vista, it's a BBQ buffet but I swear the fried chicken is ON POINT!! plus gives you a chance to eat some BBQ

Next would be Carolina Buffet, little small buffet over in Springdale on platt springs rd. The cook in there is a godsend, great country sides and the fried chicken is probably a the best in Columbia! Just make sure to check the menu because it changes daily.

Good luck! From your fellow chicken connoisseur..

Oh man, you sound like you know what you're talking about. Thanks!

Palmetto Pig is the best fried chicken in the city.

If you're willing to drive a long way out of the city, Shealy's BBQ has great chicken and BBQ. Worth the drive out of the city.

Edit: Warning will take you like a hour or two to get there so be prepared.

Urine luck OP! In today's ColaToday email there's a link to a "Great Carolina Fried Chicken Map". I have no idea how accurate it is (that is, if the places listed have good chicken), but it's a start. Check it out (link to article and to source).

Most suggestions are spot on except Zesto's and Rush's. Both are overrated and some times have good chicken but usually not. If you're not from the south, think about Zaxby or Chick-Fil-A too.

Totally agree on Zestos. They have one in Chapin and it's 100% overrated.
